I´m a folk musician from Finland, based in Oslo. My main instruments are fiddle and jouhikko (an ancient Finnish bowed lyre), as well as playing other string instruments such as nyckelharpa and mandolin. I’ve been involved in the Finnish folk music scene since the 90’s, performing in 30 countries and working on more than 50 albums as a musician, arranger and composer. Holding a Master’s Degree in Folk Music (2002), I am now working on my Artistic Doctoral Studies (2017-) with jouhikko in the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki. Sharing live music experiences with people is simply one of the meanings of my life.
In a sense, I can describe myself as a world music fidder: I am familiar with many Nordic folk music styles (as well as Irish/Old time fiddling etc). My main groups, however, are rooted in my Finnish background: Värttinä and Freija – find more information on these groups below!
In addition to my own solo performances, I’m looking forward to establishing myself in Norway and to get to know people and sharing music experiences through both listening, jamming, learning, teaching, practicing, singing, dancing, recording and performing.
